MAGAZINE BUZZ: Tyler Perry Is Single, "Saved" AND Having Sex?

Funny man Tyler Perry is covering the August issue of EBONY Magazine. But his revelation that he is engaging in premarital sex isn't funny at all. Fornication is forbidden for Christians. But the "$350 million man" reveals to EBONY that he and his mystery girlfriend, whom he calls "really special" thought they were pregnant back in December. Clearly, of his own admission, the two are/were sexing each other. So why is Mr. Perry mum on plans to marry? Is something wrong with this picture?

Typically silent about anything substantial pertaining to his love life, this revelation is out of character for Perry. And engaging in sexual relations without putting a ring on it, is out of character for a Christian. That doesn't mean we all are perfect and don't make mistakes. At the same time, it is not advisable to go broadcasting things like this all throughout national media in a seemingly proud manner. Sin brings reproach and is nothing to be proud of. Proverbs 14:3 says, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people."

Tyler Perry poses with his “date” Gelila Bekele on the red carpet (wireimage/getty)

On several occasions, Perry has been linked to different women, but no one knows the identity of his "almost" baby's mama. A few times, Perry was spotted with the lovely Gelila Bekele. But again, the identity of Perry's mystery love, is unknown to the public.

Whomever she is, Perry gushed about her to EBONY Magazine:

“Back in December” he began “when we thought we were having a kid, I got overwhelmed. “We” (the interviewer asked) Is there a woman in your life? “Yeah” he responded–smiling yet no elaborating. He says, “she is really, really special. It’s the longest relationship I’ve been in, largely because I don’t feel any kind of marry-me-now pressure from her.“

Um, what kind of mentality is that to sex her but not wife her?

That gets a definite side-eye from EEW BUZZ.

This is the torn up mentality that is pervasive, not just in the African American community, but in America in general. Co-habitation, playing house, or as the saints call it, "shacking up," is an epidemic nowadays.

This is not healthy and it is not pleasing to God.

When asked aout his wealth, Perry answered, “I’ve always been wealthy because I had a tremendous amount of love from my mother. She didn’t have much, but she gave me Jesus.”

BUZZ editors like that answer. By the way, Tyler, Jesus wants you to wait until you're married to have sexual relations.

This is the problem with black men these days. They want the milk but don't want to buy the cow. Ugh!

I'm really disappointed to hear that this highly publicized "christian" would so nonchalantly reveal this to the world. This is another example of a fallen man who is blatantly dishonoring God with no remorse. None of us are perfect, however that does not excuse us from our responsibilty to God to refrain from pre-marital sex. Mr. Perry does not even acknowledge the error of his actions but plays into the worlds view that pre-marital sex is just a way of life and not just for the wife. Come on, we have to do better. God requires that we do!!

I am disappointed in Mr. Perry. Not so much that he is having premarital sex, but because he decided to talk about it. I find nothing amusing about people talking about their "bedroom business" to anyone...besides God, their spouses, and even a therapist (if need be). I know what the Word of God says about premarital sex, so I am certainly not in agreement with it, but let's face it...many of us are not in a position to throw stones. We may want others to believe that we are. I'm not saying that all Christians have had premarital sex, but many of us have...some with our "then-fiances...now spouses)! Whether we "were going to get married" or not, is not the issue. If sex with that person before marriage was present...then it is, what it is! So let's pray that he will realize that what he is doing is contradicting God and his (Mr. Perry's) work, and not stone him to death with judgment!

Tylisha wrote:"This is the problem with black men these days. They want the milk but don't want to buy the cow. Ugh!" Why do you feel the need to turn this into an opportunity to bash ALL Black men? This is the behavior of ONE Black man that is not unique or limited to Black men, but the human race. Let me be clear that I am in total disagreement with Mr. Perry's attitudes and actions and there am in no way condoning, excusing or justifying his verbal or behavioral decisions. I just don't appreciate the categorical castigation of ALL Black Men because of what ONE has chosen to do.

Actually this is the problem with Christians, that they choose to judge and persecute others choices. If the man at 40 something years old is having pre-marital sex then that's his choice. He has given much back to the world so get off his back. Can't stand bigotry.

Because of the fact that we all fall short of God's glory, who are we to judge others. From what I understood and was taught is that God judges a man by two things....his heart and his faith. Read St. Matthews 7:1-5 where Jesus talks about judging others. How easily we forget or don't acknowledge His Word when it comes to others and how quickly we come into defense when others ridicule us for our sins. None of us are perfect. Sure we can strive to be and there's nothing wrong with that. But there's only one who was and still is and that's Jesus. All of us has done so many things that was not pleasing to God. But the God I serve is a merciful God with sufficient grace and we should all be thankful for that. Your walk with God is yours....no one else's.....let Him be the judge of that. A man with fame and fortune is still just a man....and that's who Tyler Perry is....a man who is doing what God ha Ibrought him here to do.....using his talents to be a blessing to others....like many of us are doing. So if you're looking for a Christian example....look within yourselves first and read the Bible....learn the truth. There's only one who would never let you down....and his name is Jesus. Be blessed y'all.
